 ‘Podhale Oldham’ Song & Dance Ensemble has been entertaining audiences throughout Europe for over 50 years. Appearing on Opportunity Knocks where we came second to Mary Hopkins. It was an honour and privilege to perform in front of Pope John Paul II in Ireland, also touring around France performing for the French and Polish communities.

July 2003 saw the rejuvenation of this ensemble with members from Oldham and surrounding areas. Although some members travel from other counties, their commitment and enthusiasm shows through especially to the younger generation.

At home in the UK we have performed for a variety of festivals, charities and organisations, like The British Legion, Festivals in Carlisle and Bradford, Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Clubs, Parishes, Weddings, and the most rewarding is going to the Polish Housing Society Hospice in Penrhos, North Wales.

Faced with a challenge and a youthful team we reorganised the dancing troupe into the force that it is today. Using the many talents that the troupe encompasses we created an artistic council where the members are allowed to express themselves in new ideas,  allowing second and third generation family members as young as six to perform along side their elders in stage presentations like the  ‘Wigillia’  which is a translation meaning  ‘Christmas Eve’.

Our repertoire is from the Kraków (Cracow) region and the Podhale (Polish Highland region) this is where the name of our troupe comes from, our repertoire contains many national dances.  

We continue to grow and flourish going from one success to another.
